About The Position

The Speech and Language Pathology Department is recognized for its programs dealing with adult communication disorders resulting from brain injury, voice problems, swallowing disorders, or oral motor dysfunction, and also offers lymphedema services. The Speech-Language Pathologist is an independent health care professional who provides individualized patient care, assessing and treating speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders in children and adults per physician referral.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree, Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), ASHA
• Experience in adult/children neurological speech and language disorders, evaluation and treatment, including aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, laryngectomy, stuttering, and voice disorders
• Experience with head and neck cancer, tracheostomies, cognition, TBI, dementia, and modified barium swallow studies
• Certificate of Clinical Competence, America Speech-Language-Hearing Association, (required) or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
• Licensure in Speech Pathology-Michigan (required) or temporary license during the CFY (required)

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized patient care that assesses and treats speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, voice, fluency and swallowing disorders in children and adults per physician referral
• Evaluate referred patients
• Establish patient and family centered goals
• Develop and execute treatment plans to promote or maximize independence in the discharged setting
• Participate in performance improvement and educational opportunities that promote the growth and development of the department and profession
