About The Position

As a Speech Pathologist, your empathy, compassion, and exceptional evaluation abilities lead to rehabilitative treatment programs that restore or improve patients’ optimal level of function, independence, and quality of life. STATUS: Part-time LOCATION: Rochester General Hospital DEPARTMENT: Speech Language Pathology SCHEDULE: Tues/Thurs/Fri, Days 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Position Summary: Upon referral, evaluates patients. Develops and implements rehabilitative treatment programs for the purpose of restoring or improving the patient’s optimal level of function, independence, and quality of life. Documents and communicates results and recommendations. Participates in multidisciplinary activities. Participates in continuing education programs within as well as outside the hospital. Provides supervision to students during their affiliation. Participates in quality improvement programs and projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of nine (9) months of supervised work experience (completion of CFY), or participation in supervised clinical fellowship, for a minimum of 36 weeks under a NYS licensed Speech Pathologist, followed by the NYS licensure examination and achievement of NYS license
  • Compassionate, warm, and patient-focused
  • Excellent organization and planning skills
  • MS: Speech Pathology (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of experience with the frail elderly population preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation & Planning. Perform a complete initial evaluation of the referred patient; develop and implement treatment plans, including appropriate short- and long-term goals; involve the patient, family, and staff in the implementation of the treatment program; re-evaluate patient functional status progressively; advance patient toward maximal performance and functional independence
  • Documentation. Maintain a complete documentation of patient evaluations, treatment, progress, and discharge status; send required information to appropriate professionals
  • Collaboration. Actively participate in rehabilitation team efforts to meet patient needs, including counseling and teaching patient and family, discussing changes in treatment programs with MDs, coordinating healthcare plans with other involved professionals, and assisting in discharge planning as appropriate
