About The Position

The Speech Pathologist provides advanced patient care including evaluations, goal setting, treatment planning, family training and the application of treatment techniques in accordance with designated practice act and department policy and procedure. The role is responsible for providing inpatient care as per physician's orders and supervises non-CCS (California Children's Services) paneled staff as requested. The Speech Pathologist participates in case conferences and discharge planning meetings, working with the program coordinator, case manager and/or MTU (Medical Therapy Unit)/school representative to communicate and coordinate recommendations for ongoing therapy and equipment needs upon discharge. The position also involves performing other duties as needed. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology or Communicative Disorders
  • Nine months of experience in a medical speech pathology or rehabilitation setting
  • Able to use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position
  • Able to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment
  • Able to perform technical patient care activities
  • Able to communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies
  • Able to work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure
  • Able to lead, supervise, teach and collaborate
  • Able to accept direction
  • Demonstrates understanding of the economics of rehabilitation (i.e. Funding policies and sources, accreditation, marketability, cost management, managed care, case management systems, materials management, etc.)
  • Cooperates with management and other associates in achieving organizational goals, clinical program, and mission
  • Integrates clinical and administrative feedback and direction
  • Able to read, write legibly, speak in English with professional quality
  • Able to communicate effectively, in person, in writing, and on the telephone
  • Able to think critically

  • Current Speech Pathology licensure
  • American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • CCS-Paneled required if assigned to Pediatric Rehabilitation or fulfill CCS paneling requirements within twelve months from hire date
