About The Position

Assist Special Education Department Directors with all aspects of the Speech Language Pathology including assessment, planning, implementation, oversight, and supervision of the Audiology, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), English-Language Acquisition (ELA), and Augmentative Communication (AAC) Teams (as well as Secondary Autism Team for secondary education assignments). Provide support in recruiting and retaining Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, DHH, and AAC Team staff. Monitor the effectiveness of program practices and support professional development and provide student support in programs at the request of teams and Directors. For secondary education assignment, conduct professional evaluations of students at the request of Special Education Directors and complete all aspects of a research-based and reliable evaluation; provide defensible evaluations, following best practices in the field of Speech-Language Pathology, and consultations to teams as a member of the Secondary Autism Team.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or higher.
• Three (3) years of instructional leadership or equivalent experience.
• At least four (4) years of experience in research-based speech-language pathology in a school setting with students of varying degrees of severity.
• Extensive school-based knowledge and experience working with English Language Learners from a variety of diverse cultures and backgrounds, including observations, implementing Tier 2 and 3 interventions, assessment, identification, and collaboration with school teams and families
• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Completed Colorado Department of Education Autism Identification coursework
• Knowledge of computer based IEP system currently in use
• Ability to effectively motivate and supervise people
• Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal relations skills
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to maintain current knowledge of the field of Speech-Language Pathology, Autism, Audiology, DHH, and AAC.
• Ability to promote and follow the Board of Education Policies, District Policies, and building and department procedures, protocols and guidelines.
• Criminal Background check and fingerprinting for hire.
• Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Services Provider (SSP) School Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) license
• American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) or Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
• Training in the Teaching and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children (TEACCH) methodology for secondary education assignment
• Colorado driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Understand and communicate to staff local, state, and federal statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and administrative directives from CDE, ASHA, and as communicated by SPED Directors and Principals pertaining to instruction and assessment services provided by SLPs, SLPAs, AUDS, TODs and the AAC Team.
• Remain current in best practices in the field of Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, DHH and AAC.
• Provide Mentorship for Clinical Fellows in the school district (maximum 3 Fellows per year), and to novice or experienced SLPs (providing feedback on reports, programming questions, services, etc.).
• With the Director of Special Education, discuss and monitor the provision of district services relating to the Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, Deaf Hard of Hearing, and Augmentative and Assistive Technology departments.
• Conduct file reviews, goal checks, evaluations and diagnostic therapy for students in buildings when there is an unfilled need
• Collaborate with district departments, schools, staff, and local agencies regarding the Speech Language Pathology, Audiology, DHH, and AAC programs.
• Conduct evaluations of students with complex communication or situation needs at the request of Special Education Directors, Assistant Directors including contacting outside evaluators and service providers, file reviews, contacting outside providers, parent interviews, direct assessment of students, observations, report writing, interpreting data, team debriefs and complete IEP process.
• Monitor effective instructional practices and develop professional development trainings and opportunities for SLP, SLP-A, AUD, TOD, AAC staff members, aligning the SLP, AUD, DHH, AAC programs with the District’s strategic plan, goals, and initiatives.
• Recruit, screen, retain department staff, including SLPs, SLP-As, AUDs, TODs, and AAC Team staff. Provide support to and mentor SLP, SLP-A, AUD, TOD, AAC staff as needed.
• Assess quality of therapeutic Intervention Monitoring at the request of Directors or Principals. Use effective problem solving, communication, organization and planning skills to coach and instruct SLPs, SLP-As, AUDs, TODs, and AAC Team.
• Manage Medicaid and Part B Budgets, ordering protocols, department needs, etc.
• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
• Conduct and process team intakes, file reviews, observations, problem solve Tier 2 and 3 interventions, assessment plan, and attend child studies and IEP meetings for students who are referred to the English Language Specialist/Special Education Team with teams, directors, etc.
• Conduct team intakes, file reviews, observations, demonstrated therapeutic techniques, evaluations, and reports; attend IEP meetings for students who are referred to the Autism and Severe Needs Team collaborating with teams, directors, legal department, etc.
