About The Position

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant provides direct assistance in treating disorders in students related to articulation and phonology, language processing, hearing, and alternative augmentative communication under the supervision of a licensed Speech and Pathologist. The role involves conducting speech-language screenings, providing treatment assistance, documenting student progress, and assisting with assessments and clerical duties. The assistant will also participate in meetings and training programs related to assigned activities.

Requirements

  • An associate degree with a major in Speech and Language Pathology Assistance.
  • Registered or in the process of registration with the California State Board for Speech Pathology-Audiology.
  • 70 hours of field experience supervised by an ASHA-certified Speech and Language Pathologist.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish is desirable, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct speech-language screening without interpretation using protocols developed by the supervising speech and language pathologist.
  • Provide direct treatment assistance to identified students under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist.
  • Follow and implement documented IEPs developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Document student progress toward meeting established objectives and report the information to a supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Assist a speech-language pathologist during assessment, including formal documentation, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties.
  • Schedule activities and prepare charts, records, graphs, and data.
  • Perform checks and maintenance of equipment, including augmentative communication devices.
  • Assist with speech-language pathology research projects, in-service training, and family or community education.
  • Assist with hearing screenings under the direction of a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist.
  • Participate in meetings, conferences, and in-service training programs related to assigned activities.
  • Operate a variety of instructional and office equipment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
