About The Position

The SLPA will assist the Speech Language Pathologists in caring for the needs of students on an IEP for speech services.

Requirements

  • An SLPA must complete an approved course of academic study, field work under the supervision of an ASHA-certified and/or licensed SLP, and on-the-job training specific to SLPA responsibilities and workplace behaviors.
  • An Associate's Degree in an SLPA program
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a speech-language pathology or communication disorders program
  • Successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of supervisd field work experience or its clinical experience equivalent
  • Demonstartion of competency in the skills required of an SLPA
  • Hear, speak , and interpret.
  • Walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Read, write, and interpret written documents.
  • Manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the responsibilities for the SLPA's specified in this document and refrain from performing tasks or activities that are the sole responsibilty of the SLP.
  • Perform only the tasks prescribed by the supervising SLP
  • Adhere to all applicable state licensure laws and rules regulating the practice of speech-language pathology, such as those requiring licensure or registration of support personnel.
  • Conduct oneself ethically within the scope of practice and responsibiliites for an SLPA.
  • Actively participate with the SLP in the supervisory process.
  • Assist with clerical duties as directed by the SLP.
  • Perform checks and amintenance of equipment.
  • Assist with departmental operations.
