About The Position

In alignment with the NWRESD's mission and as a contributing member of the educational team, the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the development of student communication skills essential for academic and social success. Under the direction of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA implements speech and language programs and services tailored to students' individual needs. The SLPA provides direct support to students with a broad range of communication disorders, including difficulties related to language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice/resonance, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). All services are delivered in accordance with the supervising SLP's guidance and within the scope of practice defined by the SLPA license.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an SLPA program or completion of college-level coursework meeting state licensure requirements.
  • Experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting.
  • Current licensure through the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle available for use on the job.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct treatment assistance to students as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Follow documented therapy plans and instructional strategies developed by the SLP that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of individual students.
  • Demonstrate awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity in the area of language acquisition with linguistically and/or culturally diverse populations.
  • Implement a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities.
  • Address social, academic, and vocational needs that have an impact on attainment of educational goals.
  • Support the use and maintenance of AAC devices and technology.
  • Support scheduling and maintain appropriate records and data.
  • Assist with screening procedures to identify students with potential speech-language needs.
  • Provide direct intervention assistance to students as identified by the supervising SLP.
  • Document student progress toward meeting established objectives and report this information to the supervising SLP.
  • Assist the SLP with informal documentation during an intervention session.
