Requirements

  • Speech Language Pathologist (SLP or SLP-P) licensure by the Missouri Commission for Speech-Language Pathologists.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) certification from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • SLP program graduates must obtain CCC within 2 years of employment as a condition of continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Actively identify and participate in training, education, development activities, and/or supervise speech therapy students or speech fellows to improve their own knowledge and performance including acquiring the CEUs needed to maintain state licensure in the State of Missouri.
  • Administer treatment that requires the advanced skills of a licensed clinician to address speech, language, and swallowing impairments.
  • Determine the need for referral to medical specialists.
  • Complete documentation according to MU Health Care and department guidelines and policies.
  • Evaluate speech, language, and swallowing functions by administering appropriate diagnostic tests.
  • Interpret findings to medical professionals, patients, and appropriate patient caregivers.
  • Maintain standards in accordance with the code of ethics of the ASHA and the State of Missouri Practice Act to maintain eligibility for licensure.
  • May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
