The Speech Language Pathologist provides direct and indirect service and research-based therapy techniques to support the curriculum of District 196. This role involves conducting evaluations and assessments to determine eligibility and make recommendations regarding programs and services. The pathologist develops individual education plans in collaboration with the classroom teacher, parent, and IEP team. They are expected to demonstrate current knowledge of instructional best practices and methodology for speech/language services, and to develop and demonstrate culturally responsive practices that lead to equitable outcomes for all students, particularly those groups of students that are over-represented in special education. The position also includes providing instruction in strategies to support students in developing social emotional skills for success, collaborating with others to plan, teach and support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment, and advocating for students with disabilities to ensure high levels of achievement. Strong communication and collaboration with staff, parents, and other professionals are essential, and the role carries out responsibilities as defined by the master contract.
