A Brief Overview Responsible for providing a full range of therapeutic services including assessment, treatment planning and therapeutic interventions in an interdisciplinary environment consistent with the position's qualification, professional practices, and ethical standards. The speech therapist shall also demonstrate accountability for the contribution to program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion. Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) both identify and treat communication problems related to language and speech, as well as various swallowing issues. Working with patients of all ages, Speech Language Pathologists seek to improve communication skills through vocal exercises and cognitive therapies and work on swallowing deficits through various interventions. The employee will complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree from an accredited therapy program and performed the required clinical internships satisfactorily
  • Ability to utilize therapy equipment in the designated rehabilitation setting to provide treatment and procedures preferred.
  • Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology - South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association Required

Responsibilities

  • Reviews physician's referral (prescription), patient's condition, medical history, and submitted medical records to determine speech therapy treatment required
  • Evaluate patients' speech and or swallowing through various standardized tests and clinical observations and evaluation and records findings to develop treatment programs
  • Develop a treatment plan for patients with specific goals and tasks
  • Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of patients and incorporate proper interventions that can help patients’ speech and or swallow deficits.
  • Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit
  • Records treatment, responses, and progress in the patient’s electronic medical record and prepare reports as indicated by licensure, the provider, and/or insurance recommendations
  • Instruct patients and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Completes documentation by clinical / department guidelines and meets expectations of monthly department chart audits.
