Description General Statement of Job: The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, and implement an occupational therapy program under the supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation and as ordered by the referring physician. Employees in position evaluate and administer treatment to return patients to their previous level of function. Essential Functions: Instruct patient, family/caregiver, and other organization health care personnel in the patient's treatment regime, progress, and discharge plan. Reviews and revises Speech Therapy policies and procedures as often as appropriate with the collaboration of the Director of Rehabilitation. Reviews and develops Speech Therapy programs to ensure that the facility provides appropriate Speech Therapy services to residents. Evaluates patients and residents using standard Speech Therapy evaluation criteria and establishes appropriate treatment plans. Maintains clinical competency in Speech language pathology practice and theory. Train and provide oversight for rehabilitation aides upon transitioning on restorative aide dining program. Recommends equipment needs to the Director of Rehabilitation. Administers therapeutic treatment to residents according to physician's and/or Speech Therapist's established management care plans. Creates and implements Speech Therapy treatment plans and identify equipment needs relative to speech/language function. Assesses patient progress, including progress subsequent to treatment. Maintains documentation and files concerning activities conducted (e.g., charting, patient progress, treatment logs, and monthly statistics).Communicates with appropriate District personnel and referring physician to effectively communicate patient progress. Provides instruction to nursing personnel in patient management and related persons involved in patient management/care, including patient families. Ensures safety of patients during administering of all rehabilitative and therapeutic procedures. Attends various seminars, workshops, in-service training programs, department meetings, and rehabilitation conferences to maintain current knowledge of trends and developments both in the field and in relation to patient rehabilitation plans. Transport patients and performs a variety of clerical duties Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
