About The Position

25 - 26 school year this position is shared between two other schools Summerfield and Dawson Elementary. The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for conducting evaluations and providing educationally relevant treatment for students with speech, language, and related disorders across grade levels, in accordance with federal, state, and district policies. The Speech-Language Pathologist works independently within the established scope of practice for the profession, and reports to the site administrator and/or Supervisor, Speech-Language. Requirements

  • Florida Department of Health License in Speech Language Pathology or Florida Educator Certificate in Speech Language Impaired K-12.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents.
  • Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
  • Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.
  • Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.
  • Up to 10 pounds.
  • Both dominant and non-dominant hand, overhead.
  • This position may require traveling to various school sites, work locations, and/or community organizations throughout the district.

Nice To Haves

  • American Speech Language-Hearing Association Certificate of Clinical Competence preferred.
  • A Florida Department of Health Provisional License will be accepted for clinical fellows.

Responsibilities

  • Provides speech, language, hearing, and communication screenings and evaluations for students referred through school teams in accordance with state and district rules, guidelines, and professional practice standards.
  • Reports and interprets findings of individual screenings and evaluations to parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Develops educationally relevant recommendations, therapy, and treatment plans in accordance with current eligibility and Individual Education Plan (IEP) processes.
  • Provides services and direct instruction to students with speech-language and related disabilities using a variety of service delivery models.
  • Monitors student progress and adjusts treatment plans to meet established goals and objectives.
  • Maintains documentation of student progress data and service records in accordance with district, state, and federal policies, including privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Trains and supervises specialized support personnel in accordance with professional practice guidelines and state rules. May supervise clinical fellows and graduate students as assigned by the Supervisor, Speech-Language.
  • Serves as a resource for school problem-solving teams regarding speech, language, hearing, communication development, and the impact on educational achievement.
  • Collaborates with teachers and other school staff to meet student needs related to established communication goals and objectives and offers support for general language and communication development in the educational setting.
  • Participates in specialized professional learning activities designed to improve professional practice and as required to maintain licensure and certification.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
