Directs patient participation in selected takes to restore, reinforce and enhance performance. Facilitates the learning of those skill and functions essential for adaptation and productivity, diminish or correct pathology and to promote and maintain health. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the age groups services by this department, from neonatal through geriatric.

Requirements

  • Graduate with a Masters of Arts or Science degree from the ASHA approved school of Speech Therapy.
  • 1 year experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • California State SLP License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Eligible for membership in the ASHA.
  • Must adhere to Code of Ethics of the ASHA.
  • Los Angeles County Fire Card (required within 30 days of hire)
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) (required within 30 days of hire)
  • Fire Card (within 30 days of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Written evaluation of new speech therapy patients.
  • Reassessment of ongoing patients.
  • Develop and adjust patient treatment plan.
  • Develop objectives and measurable goals with specific time frames.
  • Patient, family and community education.
  • Provide rehabilitative speech therapy care to inpatients and/or outpatients including patient/resident treatment, response and progress or treatment.
  • Documentation of progress notes and flow sheets/charts according to guidelines of the department, Medicare, Workers Compensation or other specific payors.
  • Written discharge assessment notes.
