About The Position

To provide appropriate clinical services to speech, language, and hearing-impaired children in the District.

Responsibilities

  • To screen all children in kindergarten, first, and second grades, as well as special education classes.
  • To identify through assessment, communication needs of individual students.
  • To take initiative in seeking additional help through outside disciplines when this is indicated for the benefit of the child.
  • To provide appropriate therapeutic techniques for both functional and organic disorders, including articulation, stuttering, voice, language, cleft palate, and hearing impaired.
  • To present and utilize a variety of materials motivating to children and appropriate to their needs.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly learning environment.
  • To confer with and provide relevant information regarding the therapy program and the needs of the child.
  • To identify verbal communication problems through referrals from school personnel.
  • To work effectively with principals, teachers, and other specialists in problem solving assessments.
  • To operate flexibly within the school environment.
  • To provide in-service training when desired.
  • To communicate goals and progress of the therapy program.
  • To participate in parent and school informational meetings when relevant to the speech, language, and hearing program.
