The Speech-Language Pathologist (Staff) at La Rabida Children's Hospital is responsible for providing comprehensive speech, language, and oral motor/feeding diagnostics and therapeutic interventions to pediatric patients. This role involves developing and implementing treatment plans based on clinical assessments, utilizing appropriate treatment methods, and ensuring effective communication with patients and their families. The position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support children with complex medical conditions and developmental disabilities.

  • Provide speech, language, and oral motor/feeding diagnostics and therapeutic intervention to pediatric inpatients and outpatients.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on clinical assessments.
  • Utilize treatment methods appropriate to developmental levels, considering sensory and medical status.
  • Select formal and informal measures to assess communication modes and developmental progress.
  • Provide speech, language, feeding/swallowing, and hearing screenings as necessary.
  • Become competent with the hospital's practice management system, including electronic medical recordkeeping modules.
  • Complete clinical reports in a timely manner, including initial evaluations, re-evaluations, and discharge summaries.
  • Develop Individualized Rehabilitation Service Plans (IRSP) and revise them as required for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Create treatment plans for patients on caseload and track progress as needed.
  • Master's degree in Speech and Hearing Science or equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience required, with pediatric experience preferred.
  • Current Illinois licensure (or license pending) required.
  • ASHA CCCs required.
  • Early intervention credential preferred.
  • Knowledge of AAC preferred.
  • Knowledge of oral-motor and feeding therapy techniques preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • CPR certification required, only from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
  • Pediatric practicum experience and hospital experience preferred.
  • Eligibility for early intervention evaluation credential preferred.
  • Knowledge of learning theory and behavior management preferred.
