About The Position

Baylor Scott & White Institute for Rehabilitation in Lakeway, TX is seeking a PRN Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our growing multi-disciplinary team in our Inpatient Rehab setting. The candidate will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team to treat medically complex patients that include stroke, brain injury, SCI, cancer, and other acquired or progressive neuro diagnoses with co-morbidities including aphasia, cognitive communication deficits, motor speech disorders, and dysphagia. This position requires strong swallowing and neurological rehab skills and the ability to work well in a team setting. We are open to recent graduates with previous experience in cognitive rehab, swallowing, brain injury, and stroke, but there are no CFY opportunities at this time. The candidate must have availability Monday through Friday as well as weekends, with a minimum requirement of 2 weekend days per month and 24 shifts per year. There is also an opportunity to cross-train and work in our Day Neuro OP setting, which is located on the hospital campus and focuses on the adult Neuro patient population.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
  • CCC-SLP certification from ASHA, TX-SLP certification from the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Dysphagia experience required.
  • 3+ years of outpatient experience with adult neuro preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • LSVT/SPEAK OUT certification preferred.
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with AAC preferred.
  • NMES for swallowing (AmpCare preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates all assigned patients and develops, implements, and modifies treatment plans in accordance with the patient’s needs and physician direction.
  • Responsible for delegation and direction of all discipline-specific therapy services for assigned patients.
  • Ensures the design of functional and patient-centered treatment programs allowing for an effective return to community and prior level of function.
  • Serves as an educator of patients, families, students, co-workers, and self.
  • Performs other professional duties associated with the care of the patient, development of discipline-specific therapy services, and design of program delivery.
  • Participates in discharge planning including placement, patient and family education, and adaptive equipment.
  • Works closely with an interdisciplinary team model.
  • Performs standardized assessments for disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and fluency disorders to create an individualized and patient-centered plan of care.
  • Performs clinical swallow evaluations and interprets Modified Barium Swallow evaluations to safely determine a diet and individualized plan of care.
  • Plans and delivers effective patient and family training to address safety concerns and facilitate carryover into the home and community.
  • Participates in monthly speech trainings and CEUs related to speech pathology.
  • Markets and promotes speech services to the community to grow the speech program in Central Texas.
  • Demonstrates commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and customer service skills.
