About The Position

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders while delivering resident-centered therapy that promotes rehabilitation, functional independence, and quality of life. Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, Communicative Disorders, or a closely related field from an accredited program acceptable to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
  • Current licensure, certification, or credentialing as required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Knowledge of speech-language pathology principles and evidence-based practices with a resident-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to evaluate, treat, and document communication and swallowing disorders while respecting resident rights, dignity, and individual preferences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team to support resident-centered outcomes.
  • Must be able to communicate the English language effectively both orally and in writing and comprehend the same.

Responsibilities

  • Screens, examines, and evaluates patients, including review of medical history, systems review, and administration and interpretation of appropriate assessments to establish a diagnosis and plan of care.
  • Develops measurable treatment goals and intervention plans in collaboration with patients, families, caregivers, and the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Implements speech-language pathology treatment plans and adapts programs based on patient needs, progress, and tolerance.
  • Provides therapeutic services in areas including, but not limited to: Cognitive-communication Speech intelligibility Oral-motor skills Swallowing disorders/dysphagia Perceptual abilities Orientation and memory Pragmatics Psychosocial expression Functional communication
  • Performs routine re-examinations and progress assessments to modify or advance treatment plans as clinically indicated.
  • Addresses communication and swallowing needs related to medical, neurological, and age-related conditions across the patient population served.
  • Performs Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) when appropriately trained, credentialed, and deemed competent in accordance with professional guidance and organizational policy.
  • Coordinates the acquisition of adaptive and alternative communication (AAC) devices and instructs patients, families, and caregivers in their use.
  • Facilitates identification of hearing deficits and initiates appropriate referrals for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and/or personal amplification.
  • Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary care team to select and implement appropriate therapeutic interventions.
  • Attends and actively participates in patient care conferences, rehabilitation meetings, and other related meetings.
  • Makes referrals to other disciplines or external agencies to address comprehensive patient needs.
  • Ensures effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services, including adherence to established plans of care, patient schedules, and departmental expectations.
  • Completes all clinical documentation accurately and timely, in compliance with payer, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
