About The Position

HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is seeking a Speech Language Pathologist PRN to provide high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. The Speech Therapist will perform comprehensive patient assessments, establish appropriate treatment goals, and serve as an educator to patients, families, students, and colleagues. This role requires conducting subjective assessments, administering objective tests, structuring individualized patient programs, evaluating patient progress, documenting in patient charts, and consulting with the Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding patient assessments.

Requirements

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Certified Speech Language Pathologist in the State of Texas.
  • Master's in Speech Language Pathology and CCC-SLP.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in an acute care setting.
  • Experience in Adult Acute Care, ICU, Med/Surg, and Rehab - evaluate and treat a variety of Dysphagia, speech and language disorders, administer MBSS required.
  • Must be able to work 1 weekend a month (Saturday and Sunday); weekdays as available and rotating holidays.
  • Float between acute and inpatient rehab as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct subjective assessments of assigned patient's speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation.
  • Administer objective tests to assess patient's communication assets and liabilities.
  • Structure and implement individualized patient programs to improve communication abilities.
  • Evaluate patients regularly during treatment and adjust programs as needed to maximize patient progress.
  • Document progress in patient's chart, including notes, charges, discharge notes, and patient communication.
  • Consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations.
