About The Position

The UT Health Houston Pediatric Movement Disorder Team is expanding. We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist to join our team. This position involves evaluating and treating infants and children with feeding difficulties, dysphagia, and oral-motor delays, as well as providing support for communication and language development. AAC clinic experience is a plus. Our patient population includes children with movement disorders including Cerebral Palsy, brain injury, hydrocephalus, neuromuscular conditions, and genetic conditions amongst others. This position will involve program development, intensive outpatient therapy opportunities, research participation opportunities, and close working relationships with a dedicated team of specialists. This is a niche outpatient clinic model, looking to fill in gaps and not compete with our partners who provide regular outpatient therapies in the community. Experience working with medically complex infants and children (e.g., NICU graduates, G-tube dependent, neurological conditions) required.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
  • SP-L - Licensed Speech Pathologist required.
  • CCC - Clinical Speech Pathologist required.
  • Completion of a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) covering the clinical domains of voice, airway and swallowing pathology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical evaluation of voice, airway, and swallowing pathology as related to educational, medical, social and psychological factors to identify patient needs for therapy services.
  • Evaluates special populations, including professional voice users/performers, patients with neurological disorders, head & neck cancer patients, and select pediatric patients with voice/airway/swallowing pathology.
  • Performs diagnostic laryngeal imaging examinations (flexible and rigid videostroboscopy) and acoustic/aerodynamic assessments of voice/airway function.
  • Performs instrumental assessments of swallowing, including flexible endoscopic evaluations of swallowing (FEES) and modified barium swallow studies (MBSS).
  • Plans and conducts rehabilitative treatment programs consistent with the specific area(s) of deficit.
  • Coordinates pre- and post-operative therapy services for select patients undergoing surgery for voice, airway, and swallowing pathology.
  • Performs outpatient therapy sessions with patients, in person or virtually.
  • Writes reports on diagnostic findings, therapy used, and progress made.
  • May provide clinical coordination for speech therapy related programs.
  • May recruit subjects for research programs and participate in the conceptualization and actualization of research projects within the department.
