About The Position

At NorthBay Health the Speech Language Pathologist in accordance with his/her evaluation findings and the physician’s referral, plans and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of speech-language pathology. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team. Inpatient SLPs may work occasionally in the high risk infancy clinic and NICU and throughout the hospital system with adult patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provides speech-language pathology services in inpatient and outpatient settings during assigned shift during department operating hours, including assignment in rotation of weekend and holiday coverage.
  • On physician’s referral, evaluates patients, develops specific treatment plans and goals, administers procedures and modalities specific to the learning needs and age of the patient, and plans for discharge utilizing appropriate Speech-Language Pathology techniques.
  • Acts as a case manager for assigned patients.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and current patient records in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Re-evaluates and revises patient’s treatment plan on a regular basis, with approval of physician as necessary.
  • Provides patient, family/caregivers with age appropriate instruction regarding therapy procedures and home program, and provides additional instruction as indicated.
  • Instructs the patient and family/caregiver in care and use of assistive and adaptive equipment.
  • Communicates with rehabilitation team members, family, physicians and third party payers regarding patient progress and program changes as appropriate.
  • Attends and/or participates inter/intradepartmental in-services and meetings as required and appropriate.
  • Participates in short and long-term program development, including participation on committees as requested.
  • Participates in student intern and/or volunteer program as appropriate.
  • Provides supervision to CFY as appropriate.
  • Maintains clean, safe and orderly treatment areas and equipment. Reports to supervisor any problems or suggestions regarding safety in the workplace.
  • Assists with orientation and supervision of other health care professionals as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with physicians, co-workers, patients and other hospital personnel.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops within assigned specialty areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
