About The Position

As a Speech-Language Pathologist at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, you will confirm and interpret physician referrals, perform patient assessments, and plan and implement individualized treatment programs. These programs will take into account the patient's developmental and/or chronological age and medical diagnoses, in accordance with the regulations governing the principles and practice of Speech-Language Pathology. You will provide patient care based on physician referrals and age-appropriate assessments, coordinating patient care and clinical activities through effective communication with patients, families, therapists, Clinical Team Leaders, managers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team. Documentation in the patient's medical record and compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies is essential. Collaboration with clinical staff, support staff, volunteers, and students is expected to achieve efficient clinical activity and quality patient care. Participation in departmental and professional activities, including in-services, performance improvement, program development, and staff meetings, is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Experience in site-specific level of care preferred but not required.
  • For Home Health positions, one year of clinical experience required.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association or eligibility to complete clinical fellowship year (CFY).
  • Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • AHA BLS-certified within six months of employment.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, customer service, and teamwork skills.
