About The Position

Under supervision/observation of a New York State licensed Speech Language Pathologist supervisor, performs the following tasks: Evaluates and develops therapeutic plans to address oral motor, communication, and feeding needs of the PWS and provides Speech and Language Habilitation/Rehabilitation services for the patient as ordered by a physician. Treats people we support (PWS) with disabilities, disorders, and injuries related to the area of Speech-Language Pathology. Makes use of therapeutic devices and other equipment to prevent regression or restore maximum performance of speech and language modalities. Plans, directs and supervises PWS, family and/or significant others in the use of equipment and exercise regimen. Participates in patient communication and interdisciplinary care planning for individual patient needs. Completes contemporaneous documentation using electronic health records. Keeps track of hours, meets with direct supervisor, and ensures their adherence to the protocols for their clinical fellowship. Follows the scope of practice as outlined by the National Organization, American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and consistent with New York State Education Department (NYSED) supervised experience requirements. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in speech-language pathology from a New York State registered licensure qualifying program, a program accredited by ASHA or the equivalent.
  • Willingness to take initiative.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Highly flexible personality type.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge of AAC/AT and communication applications.
  • Knowledge about oral motor structures and function related to swallowing and feeding issues.
  • Experience working with individuals with complex physical and communication delays.
  • Experience with intellectual and developmental delays.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records, ideally Next-Gen.
