About the position

Provides specialized instruction and services for students who have disorders of speech, language, and/or communication; performs speech and language assessments; assists in developing the Individualized Education Program for students with speech language, and/or communication deficits; and consults with teachers and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and uses diagnostic assessment materials and procedures that are appropriate for the intended use; considers student's cultural, linguistic, and disability background when choosing assessment tools; applies evaluation data and findings to intervention, instruction, programming, and services through written reports, intervention plans, and/or meetings.
  • Conducts speech/language screenings and evaluations that are compliant with federal and state regulations; effectively communicates evaluation findings to parents and school staff through written reports and conferences; utilizes evaluation findings to inform accurate eligibility, placement, and service decisions.
  • Designs and implements appropriate intervention strategies, including application of technology; monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Provides speech/language services through a variety of delivery models.
  • Provides information relative to speech, language, and communication disorders to students, parents, teachers, and others as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with teachers and parents regarding program content and speech/language services.
  • Provides augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders.
  • Collects student performance data.
  • Establishes and maintains a daily schedule of speech/language services.
  • Implements requirements of federal and state regulations.
  • Maintains records and reports required by district, state, and federal agencies.
  • Provides quarterly reports regarding educational progress towards goals/objectives to parents and school personnel for each student on his/her caseload.
  • Develops parent and staff trainings related to supporting communicative needs.
  • Complete MediCal Billing.
  • Participates in professional growth activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree, including all courses necessary to meet credential requirements.
  • Valid California credential authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned, including Clinical Rehabilitative Services credential.
  • Must be able to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and community.
