About The Position

The Speech-Language Pathologist will identify, evaluate, and provide therapy for students with speech and language impairments that interfere with their ability to benefit from the district's educational program. This role involves organizing identification programs, evaluating speech and language functions, and planning clinical programs for students with communication needs. The Speech-Language Pathologist will also comply with state standards and district policies, complete comprehensive evaluations, and maintain communication with faculty and parents.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current NM Public Education license.
  • Must have N.M. SLP Licensing board license.
  • Must have National Board Certification for Speech/Language Pathologist (ASHA) after 2015.
  • Must obtain a minimum of 1.0 CEUs (10 contact hours) per year for licensure.
  • Current Speech/Language Licensure must be renewed as required by law.
  • Valid Driver's License and Car Insurance.
  • Ability to travel from site to site.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and conduct identification program of students with potential speech/language difficulties.
  • Evaluate speech and language functions.
  • Plan the clinical program for students identified as Speech/Language impaired.
  • Implement the clinical program.
  • Comply with State Standards, District Policies, and ASHA Guidelines.
  • Complete comprehensive evaluations according to State Standards and District Guidelines.
  • Provide a complete diagnostic summary report.
  • Cooperate with the Individualized Educational Plan Committee.
  • Participate in building committee for pre-referral interventions.
  • Administer appropriate assessments for speech/language impairment.
  • Maintain ongoing assessment to verify progress toward established goals.
  • Maintain communication with building faculty regarding the role of the SLP.
  • Develop and maintain the instructional component of the IEP.
  • Document student progress and attendance.
  • Use a variety of approaches and materials to address the IEP.
  • Attend workshops and in-service training to maintain certifications.
  • Provide therapeutic intervention to enhance student performance.
  • Organize and conduct screening and/or testing programs.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers and other district staff.
  • Manage resources, including inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Attend IEP meetings and parent conferences.
  • Maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
