Under the supervision of a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP), a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in providing educationally related speech and language services to special education students according to each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

  • Provide direct treatment and treatment assistance to students under the supervision of a speech and language pathologist.
  • Follow and implement documented treatment plans or protocols developed by a supervising speech and language pathologist.
  • Prepare therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and during therapy activities as directed by the supervising speech and language pathologist.
  • Assist in data collection and document student progress toward meeting established goals and objectives.
  • Assist in maintaining student files and submitting treatment documentation.
  • Assist a speech and language pathologist during assessments, including assisting with formal documentation, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties.
  • Act as an interpreter for non-English-speaking students and their family members when competent to do so.
  • Program and provide instruction for students in the use of augmentative and alternative communication devices.
  • Assist with speech and language pathology in-service training and family or community education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Earned an associate degree in and/or graduation from a Speech-Language Pathology assistant certificate program, OR have earned a Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders with a minimum of 70 hours field work/clinical experience from a Board-approved program.
  • Hold a current Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license from the Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology & Hearing Aid Dispensers Board.
  • Salary range (50) $29.75 - $36.59 per hour.
  • Eight (8) steps, seven (7) hours per day and five (5) days per week (M-F).
