About The Position

Summary Under the direction of the Manager/Director of the Rehabilitation Services Department, the speech – language pathologist is responsible for providing, arranging for, teaching and supervising speech – language pathology services through the process of assessment, planning and implementation. He/she provides advisory service to other professionals who share responsibility for patient care and participates in the development of the rehabilitation program. Education and Experience Requirements: A speech – language pathologist must have a minimum of a master’s degree, hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American Speech/Language Hearing Association. He/she must be licensed to practice as a speech – language pathologist in/by the State of New York. Responsibilities: EVALUATION AND TREATMENT – Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation and treatment of speech and swallowing according to approved practices, policies, and procedures of the Rehab Department of Ellis Hospital and New York State law. Demonstrates skills and abilities to assess and treat toddler, school age child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients when employed in the inpatient and outpatient service area. Inpatient duties include evaluation and treatment of swallowing through bedside swallowing evaluations and video fluoroscopic swallow studies. Experience in tracheostomy and ventilator patients, critical care and palliative care preferred. Provides approved documentation to appropriate authorities. Demonstrates effective communication skills with all persons involved in patient care and/or hospital activities. Assures financial viability according to standards of practice. Demonstrates his/her commitment to professional growth and competency. Promotes effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships – professional conduct. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to mandatory education, annual health assessment, and licensure verification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Should be able to push/pull, lift/move 35 lb., be able to perform moderately difficult manual manipulations such as using a keyboard, writing, and filing for extended periods of time, must be able to perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as data entry, typing and using photo copiers. Mobility requirements may include the ability to be stationary at a workstation for a prolonged period of time in addition to being able to squat or be mobile for a reasonable length of time and distance. Communication requirements include the ability to comprehend the spoken English language in addition to being able to communicate and read the English language. Salary Range: $50 /hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
