About The Position

Nevada City School of the Arts (NCSOTA), a TK-8 charter school in operation since 1994, is seeking a dynamic, culturally aware, stimulating, and highly qualified Speech and Language Pathologist to join our team. Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Program Specialist, this position provides speech and language assessments and therapy for students who have a variety of communicative disorders. The position requires the ability to modify or adapt systems or programs in order to meet ongoing instructional, technological, and procedural changes. This position includes the ability to develop both short and long term goals and metrics for analysis of results. Significant knowledge of legal requirements and work with local and state agencies are essential components. Ongoing communication and collaboration with leadership at school sites, county and SELPA administration, and outside agencies is required, as well as collaboration with stakeholders in design and implementation of identified goals and objectives. Knowledge of MTSS frameworks, early intervention practices, and pre-referral decision making models, including the use of data to inform instructional and behavioral supports, are required. The Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) demonstrates knowledge of speech, language, communication, and related disorders that impact students' educational performance, as well as principles and practices of assessment, intervention, and progress monitoring in school-based settings. The SLP applies evidence-based strategies to evaluate and treat articulation, language, fluency, voice, social communication skills, including the use of augmentative and alternative communication systems as appropriate. This role requires strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams; and the capacity to work independently while managing caseload responsibilities. The SLP maintains confidentiality and professional standards, demonstrates cultural responsiveness and inclusivity, and maintains current knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and best practices governing speech and language services in California schools

Requirements

  • Valid California Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) (required)
  • Fingerprint and Background clearance
  • Valid Tuberculosis clearance and every four years thereafter
  • CPR/First Aid Certification within 45 days of employment and every two years thereafter
  • Completion of mandatory training (video & in-person) within 6 weeks of employment and every year thereafter

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution (preferred)
  • Certification of Clinical Competence through ASHA (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments using appropriate standardized and informal measures to identify students' communication needs and determine eligibility for special education and related services.
  • Interpret assessment results and prepare clear, timely written reports that describe students' speech, language, communication, and functional strengths and needs.
  • Participate as a member of Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams, contributing to eligibility determinations, development of measurable goals and objectives, service recommendations, and placement decisions for students with speech and language needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs for students receiving speech and language services, including speech-only and related service IEPs, in compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Provide individual and group speech and language therapy services using evidence-based practices to support students' educational access, classroom participation, and communication across school environments.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families to integrate speech and language strategies into classroom instruction and daily routines.
  • Provide consultation, accommodations, and recommendations for students who do not qualify for services, and monitor student progress as appropriate through general education or intervention processes.
  • Design, implement, and support augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems, and provide training to students, staff, and families in the effective use of communication supports.
  • Monitor student progress through data collection and documentation, and adjust intervention strategies as needed to support student outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records, reports, and service documentation in accordance with school policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, school staff, and community partners.
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices related to school-based speech and language services.
  • Consistent Medi-Cal billing for assessments and service delivery
