Requirements

  • Speech Language Pathologist Assistant licensed in MN.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with staff, students, and parents, especially during high-stress and crisis situations.
  • Ability to create and write correspondence and other communication materials.
  • Willingness to work with students receiving SLP services.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, accepting feedback from SLP/Supervisor while maintaining good relationships.
  • Ability to travel between buildings during the duty day, as work may take place in multiple school sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction for students qualifying for speech/language services under MN Special Education Speech Criteria.
  • Consult and collaborate with the supervising Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), school staff, Special Education team, and other staff regarding services to students.
  • Provide direct and indirect/consultative speech/language therapy services in accordance with a student's Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
  • Adapt school and classroom environments, tools, and materials to improve student communication.
  • Meet regularly with supervising SLP to coordinate services, maintain timely documentation of services, update student information, and design therapy materials for intervention.
  • Provide direct services targeting speech/language goals and objectives in student IEPs.
  • Develop lesson plans, prepare materials, and create visuals for speech services provided to students.
  • Provide documentation of student services and progress on goals/objectives.
  • Assist with due process paperwork, including drafting end-of-trimester progress reports and annual IEP present levels of performance.
  • Provide suggestions for skills to target in goals/objectives for review by SLP.
  • Provide indirect services to assist with transitioning skills into the general education classroom.
  • Conduct and assist with articulation screenings, including scheduling student sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
