About The Position

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities. AMS is seeking a passionate and data-driven Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. This role is responsible for ensuring that all students receive equitable access to rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum through individualized supports and accommodations. AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making. This role requires a teacher who is committed to supporting students in Title I communities while maintaining high academic expectations and fostering an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Requirements

  • Valid Special Education teaching certification, OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field and eligibility to obtain Special Education certification
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of IEP development and special education compliance
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual learner communities
  • Possess strong organizational and data-tracking skills
  • Demonstrate collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized, standards-aligned instruction based on students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Adapt and modify general education curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to support academic growth in literacy, mathematics, and functional skills.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliant IEPs in accordance with federal, state, and district guidelines.
  • Serve as the case manager for assigned students, including scheduling and leading IEP meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports and service logs.
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA and all special education regulations.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as needed.
  • Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to support student success.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Work closely with instructional leaders and special education coordinators to improve student outcomes.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, services, and supports.
  • Facilitate IEP meetings and maintain strong partnerships with families and guardians.
