About The Position

School Social Workers in the Douglas County School District serve students across all levels (PK-12) who require universal, targeted, and intensive intervention across special education and general education populations. Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge, skills, and commitment needed to provide direct and indirect services that help students and youth succeed: academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. They must be able to support and establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students in order to: alleviate barriers to learning, engage students as individuals with unique interests and strengths, and promote student success at the student's developmental level. Additionally, applicants should have demonstrated expertise in assessment, data based decision-making skills and psycho-educational practices, in order to plan, consult, collaborate and/or provide direct services to students. They must demonstrate knowledge of and ability to implement crisis prevention, intervention, response and recovery efforts.

Requirements

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker - DORA
  • Special Services Provider License - Social Worker - Colorado Department of Education
  • Master's Degree: Social Work (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Gather information, investigate and interview clients individually, in families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities, and problems, to determine what services are required to meet their needs.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, homes, schools, family services, child guidance clinics, courts, protective services, doctors, and other contacts, to help children who face problems such as disabilities, abuse or poverty.
  • Create, organize and update case history records and prepare reports, according to deadlines.
  • Refer clients to community resources for services such as assessment services to go and how to apply.
  • Counsel parents with concerns or problems, interviewing the child and family to determine whether further action is required.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of every treatment/session delivered to students whether direct or indirect services. Information will be documented into either the current IEP system and/or current Medicaid system. Document all student services who are eligible for Medicaid reimbursement if current DORA license is held. Complete records of students' progress and development preparing required reports on students and activities.
  • Document health related services in Designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems such as truancy and misbehavior, and to implement solutions.
  • Develop and review service plans in consultation with students, and perform follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Respond to referrals and or reported cases from teachers, administrators, other school personnel, parents, students and community agencies (Department of Human Services).
  • Provide individual casework/case management/counseling to students and parents to alleviate conditions which interfere with the students' learning.
  • Provide assistance and or referrals for students, families, or staff regarding issues including mental health, poverty, unemployment, substance abuse, physical abuse, rehabilitation, social adjustment, child care or medical care.
