Position Summary The Elementary Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. Working under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Special Education, the teacher evaluates student progress, ensures compliance with federal and state requirements, and serves as the IEP case manager for assigned students. This role requires close collaboration with general education teachers, related service providers, families, and paraprofessionals to ensure students receive the services and supports necessary to access classroom learning and make meaningful academic progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Valid Oklahoma Special Education teaching certification in Mild–Moderate Disabilities

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Severe–Profound Disabilities (required if assessing OAAP students; may be obtained after hire)
  • Experience working with elementary students with disabilities
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide research-based specialized instruction aligned to the goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP
  • Create positive learning experiences with an emphasis on individualized instruction and student growth
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed to support learning
  • Support students in accessing grade-level curriculum through accommodations and instructional supports
  • Serve as the IEP case manager for assigned students
  • Schedule and lead special education meetings in collaboration with families and school teams
  • Coordinate the delivery of services outlined in each student’s IEP
  • Maintain accurate documentation and complete all required district and state reporting
  • Serve as the primary contact for families, classroom teachers, and related service providers
  • Provide consultation to classroom teachers regarding instructional modifications, behavior plans, and accommodations
  • Work closely with grade-level teams to support inclusive classroom practices
  • Provide direction and guidance to paraprofessionals supporting students with disabilities
  • Maintain professionalism in communication, attendance, and collaboration
  • Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and professional learning opportunities
  • Follow district policies and all state and federal regulations related to special education
  • Support the mission and values of Santa Fe South Charter Schools
  • Perform other comparable duties as assigned
  • Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with colleagues
  • Maintain confidentiality and high ethical standards regarding student information
  • Be proactive in matters related to student health and safety
