About The Position

The Inclusion/Resource SPED Teacher is responsible for providing special education students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This role involves developing or modifying curricula and preparing lessons and other instructional materials tailored to student ability levels. The teacher will work in various capacities including self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements.
  • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area.
  • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and IEP goal setting.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience in student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person, distance, and virtual learning that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each assigned student.
  • Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and plan appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Present subject matter effectively according to guidelines established by IEP.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed.
  • Participate in ARD Committee meetings regularly.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to IEP.
  • Communicate regularly with students or parents via phone, email, or video conferencing.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
