About The Position

Spectral Scientist, Senior Key Role: Leverage advanced and specialized physics research expertise to test and analyze physical phenomena, conduct and shape R D programs, and to support S&T customer challenges. Apply extensive technical expertise and full industry knowledge. Develop innovative solutions to complex problems. Work without considerable direction. Mentors and may supervise team members. Research and implement new methods for hyperspectral data conditioning, analysis, modeling, and exploitation. Perform radiometric characterization and calibration of imaging systems. Perform experiment planning, ground truth spectrometer measurements and photo documentation, sensor performance verification, and data analysis. Write reports and briefings on findings. Provide subject matter expertise for certain industrial processes and weather-related remote sensing issues.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience supporting spectral remote sensing projects
  • Experience with scientific programming languages such as Python, IDL, or Matlab
  • Knowledge of hyperspectral processing and exploitation algorithms, including data calibration, atmospheric correction, target detection, and target identification
  • Knowledge of physical models for remote sensing or radiometry
  • Ability to produce effective written and verbal technical communications
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam
  • Bachelor's degree in Remote Sensing, Physics, Chemistry, Math, or Electrical Engineering

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience supporting spectral remote sensing projects
  • Experience using FSTK
  • Experience developing hyperspectral processing algorithms
  • Experience developing target detection or classification algorithms
  • Experience in statistical methods for spectral or spatial analysis
  • Experience in linear and non-linear methods of classification and spectral demixing
  • Experience in dimensionality reduction and sparsity promoting methods
  • Experience designing and conducting experiments to understand remote sensing phenomenology or assess algorithm performance
  • Knowledge of spectral sensor models and data calibration
  • Master's degree in Remote Sensing, Physics, Chemistry, Math, Electrical Engineering, or a similar technical field
