About The Position

The Specimen Receiving Technician receives, processes, accessions, assigns, enters, and distributes specimens to uphold quality assurance and control to maintain smooth workflow of the laboratory. This includes daily transports of specimens across different areas of campus.

Requirements

  • Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards Required. This position requires regular driving to deliver specimens across campus locations.
  • The successful candidate must have strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and well-developed organizational skills characterized by careful attention to detail.
  • Additionally, well-qualified candidates should have the knowledge, or ability to learn how, to safely handle biohazardous materials, how to properly clean and disinfect Biosafety Level 2 areas, and how to utilize commonly used computer programs (MS Word, Excel, etc.) at an intermediate level.
  • High School Diploma

Responsibilities

  • Develops and updates preparation methods and policies to ensure quality control, quality assurance, and to maintain Standard Operation Procedures (SOP)
  • Collects, prepares, and updates specimen records in various mediums to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures
  • Provides general support to other units within the Animal Services Division as needed
  • Prepares specimens for scientific examination and analysis
  • Performs specimen preparation, intake, screening, and/or receiving/warehousing while using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Schedules logistics and secures resources for laboratory supplies, and maintains and organizes inventory
