The Specimen Processor II is responsible for receiving, accessioning, and processing clinical specimens to analysis. Provides guidance and assistance to other Specimen Processors, Transporters, and departmental support roles as a backup to Supervisor or Specimen Coordinator. A Brief Overview The Specimen Processor II is responsible for receiving, accessioning, and processing clinical specimens to analysis. Provides guidance and assistance to other Specimen Processors, Transporters, and departmental support roles as a backup to Supervisor or Specimen Coordinator. Requirements

  • Required - High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Required - Specimen Processor 1-3 years
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and specimen requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations as would be acquired through completion of high school.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions as would be acquired through completion of high school.
  • Ability to type at 30 words per minute.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, physicians, and physicians’ staff.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all job responsibilities of the Specimen Processor, Telephone Support Representative, and Transporter.
  • Assists in monitoring the daily work flow in the Specimen area.
  • Investigates and reviews QA problems and complaints with Associates.
  • Processes specimen referrals and releases referral reports.
  • Assists in the professional development of others through guidance and teaching.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
