About The Position

About the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health (NCSLPH): The North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health (NCSLPH) provides statewide medical and environmental laboratory testing, consultation, and training to support public and private health providers. As the state’s reference laboratory, NCSLPH performs specialized testing and supports the development and standardization of lab procedures to ensure accurate, high-quality diagnostics. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution OR, Completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an accredited institution; OR, High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of medical laboratory experience; OR, An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for accurate specimen data entry and tracking
  • Skilled in performing high-volume specimen accessioning and labeling with consistent accuracy under time-sensitive conditions
  • Experienced in applying standardized laboratory protocols for specimen evaluation and acceptance in compliance with regulatory guidelines
  • Proficient in maintaining detailed specimen receipt and courier logs to support audit and quality assurance processes
  • Strong capability in coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including laboratory units and healthcare providers, to resolve specimen discrepancies through effective communication
