About The Position

The Specimen Processing Technician plays a crucial role in the laboratory by receiving and processing specimens for testing. This position ensures the integrity of samples through accurate registration, labeling, and preparation for laboratory analysis. The technician will work PRN shifts, primarily in the evenings, and is responsible for handling emergency orders and preparing specimens for shipping to reference laboratories.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 2 years of sample processing experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
• Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive specimens and perform proper specimen registration in the computer.
• Accurately label and process specimens for laboratory testing.
• Ensure preservation of the integrity of each sample prior to distribution.
• Initiate pathology resident intervention on unacceptable specimens.
• Review test requisitions and specimen labels for accuracy and order tests appropriately.
• Process all emergency orders (STATS) within the required time frame.
• Process and prepare referral specimens for shipping to reference laboratories and verify complete courier delivery.
