About The Position

The Specimen Processor Team Leader utilizes processes in place to receive, distribute, track and prepare specimens for transport to MVH departments and ancillary facilities. He/she will be responsible for the day to day supervision of staff, effective planning, organization and supervision of multiple areas within the Specimen Processing department including all work processes and employees in order to meet customer and business objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s in lab, science or business management preferred.
  • At least three years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience in a lab, medical or production setting.
  • Proven leadership, strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal/written communication.
  • Strong reasoning skills and sound independent judgment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow set timetables.
  • Consistently high integrity and accuracy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and related software.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience or training in laboratory science and specimen processing.
  • Demonstrated dependability and strong customer service history.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and mentoring to processing and technical aide staff, supporting company vision, mission, business objectives and customer service standards.
  • Train employees in specimen receipt, processing and tracking procedures; promote positive communication with internal and external customers.
  • Create and distribute department schedules to meet client needs.
  • Monitor and document employee performance; complete probationary appraisals; set meaningful goals; administer fair and unbiased corrective action.
  • Perform Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement activities, applying Six Sigma principles and maintaining document control for reporting, root cause analysis and process improvements.
  • Assist with department budget management by reviewing monthly variances.
  • Prepare and submit bi‑weekly payroll.
  • Interview and recommend candidates for hire.
  • Perform all duties of a Specimen Processor and Technical Assistant, including loading specimens onto instruments.
  • Ensure accuracy and productivity through QA reviews, staff training and competency testing; deploy staff efficiently.
  • Support development and implementation of policies and systems to reduce errors, lower costs and improve productivity.
  • Serve as primary resource for resolving issues related to patient draws, orders and specimens.
  • Complete training for new or updated procedures; develop training, orientation and competency materials as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all departmental, company, safety and regulatory requirements, including CAP and Joint Commission readiness.
  • Promote teamwork, uphold company values and demonstrate positive customer service.
  • Follow all regulatory and safety protocols, including universal precautions and proper waste disposal.
  • Perform inventory checks and assist with stocking supplies.
  • Contribute to overall organizational effectiveness by performing other duties as assigned.
