Precision Diagnostics, based in San Diego, California, is a fast-growing clinical laboratory specializing in drug testing to help physicians monitor patients undergoing treatment for pain or substance abuse. Specimen Collectors are foundational team members, playing a critical role in accurate specimen collection, which has profound downstream impacts on patient care, organizational success, and reducing healthcare costs. They perform venipuncture to support a patient-centered approach to care delivery, contributing to the shared goal of Precision with Purpose.

Requirements

  • Current national phlebotomy certificate (e.g., NHA, ASCP, NCPT, etc.) or Phlebotomy certification from an accredited program.
  • At least 6 months of professional experience performing venipuncture/blood draws in a healthcare setting, with experience in the past 6 months in an active phlebotomy role.
  • Reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, current auto insurance coverage, and successful completion of a motor vehicle record check (for those that travel between clinics).
  • Flexibility to navigate between multiple clinics.
  • Active registration in states where registration is required to perform phlebotomy.
  • In-depth knowledge of specimen collection techniques and procedures (including urine, oral fluid, and blood).
  • Advanced understanding of preventing personal exposure to bio-hazards and infection prevention measures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • In-depth knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment best practices.
  • Knowledge of Substance Use Disorder and Pain Management care delivery setting.
  • Basic computer literacy (software and hardware) and ability to learn new computer/technology skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to internal and external clients and patients.
  • Ability to compose grammatically correct, professional level written communication.
  • Ability to follow checklists and produce consistent results every time.
  • Ability to maintain accurate files and records.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with, understand, and react effectively to a diverse patient population base.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a frictionless patient experience.
  • Perform accurate and timely order entry and collection processes.
  • Contribute to improved patient outcomes through precision in daily work activities.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens (oral, urine, and/or blood) according to established procedures and policies.
  • Ensure accuracy of data entry, specimen collection, and shipping.
  • Maintain venipuncture equipment storage and environment of care.
  • Facilitate the collection, processing, and shipping of laboratory specimens.
  • Stay up to date with Precision policies and procedures and adhere to all healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain neat, clean, and orderly client/work areas at all times.
  • Maintain hygiene and dress code according to company standards.
  • Order and maintain inventory of Precision Diagnostics supplies.
  • Perform direct observation during specimen collection, if required.
  • Collect and troubleshoot any missing information at the time of specimen collection.
  • Ensure identification and accuracy of billing information entry and payment collection when required, acting in alignment with corporate policies.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and compassion when interacting with clients and staff.
  • Support seamless care delivery that is patient-centered, provider supportive, and accurately billed for services provided.
