About The Position

Luster National is looking for a Specifications Writer who thrives in fast-paced, technical environments and is ready to make a tangible impact on the transit and passenger rail industry. In this mid-level role, you’ll be at the heart of transportation systems, including elevators, escalators, and infrastructure, that keep people moving safely and efficiently. You’ll play a key role in shaping the documentation that drives modernization, maintenance, and compliance across a complex transit network. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing in the heavy civil or transportation construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, methods, and building codes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong command of ASME A17.1, A17.2, A17.3 and NFPA specifications standards.
  • Strong understanding of vertical transportation systems (elevators and escalators).
  • Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) or Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) from the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI)

Responsibilities

  • Draft and edit technical specification documents that clearly outline materials, standards, and workmanship for a construction project.
  • Provide updates to existing elevator and escalator specifications as well as develop specifications to be used for future elevator and escalator replacements and modernization as required.
  • Work with project teams, including architects and project managers, to discuss requirements, review documents, and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create work plans for elevator and escalator modernization.
  • Assist in the development of predictive maintenance plans using historical and real-time data.
  • Document lessons learned and integrate feedback from stakeholders into future specifications.
  • Provide draft copies of all documents to relevant stakeholders prior to finalization.
  • Respond to all comments regarding draft documents and attend all required meetings.
