This new facility will bring the same expertise, state-of-the-art technology, and compassionate care to a broader area, making critical and specialized treatments more accessible to pet owners. We are seeking a Specialty Veterinary Technician Supervisor who is a dynamic leader with a proven track record of success, to oversee specialty veterinary technicians in a busy and fast paced multi-specialty animal hospital.

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician experience in a tertiary setting strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record in managing staff within a veterinary setting required.
  • Strong administrative and leadership abilities.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability to changing situations.
  • Ability to focus on details while maintaining awareness of broader goals.
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality in all matters.
  • Capability to handle, lift, and restrain animals; ability to stand for long periods and perform medical procedures.
  • Proficient in administering CPR, drawing blood, administering medications/fluids, and assessing/training patients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and produce high-quality outcomes.
  • Skilled at handling multiple priorities effectively.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and monitor the recruitment platform for all open Specialty technical positions.
  • Collaborate with the Hospital Director to assess staffing needs, including hiring, training, disciplining, and terminating as required.
  • Recruit and participate in the selection process of new employees, ensuring completion of orientation and training.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals, provide coaching and mentorship, and identify ongoing skill-building needs alongside the Learning and Development team.
  • Assist in performance-based incentive programs, mediate conflicts, and maintain employee satisfaction.
  • Track and ensure all LVTs maintain current licensure.
  • Assist in the daily operations of Specialty technical staff.
  • Oversee technical staffing and scheduling, ensuring alignment with budget and operational needs.
  • Collaborate with department managers and the Hospital Director to maximize staff efficiency and revenue growth.
  • Partner with the Hospital Director to ensure client satisfaction and optimal patient care.
  • Work with the OSHA/Safety Officer to maintain a robust hospital safety program.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Management Officer for root cause analysis and technical staff training development.
  • Oversee all Specialty technical staff payroll processes, including missed punches, PTO, CE days, bereavement, and sick leave.
  • Manage inventory for Specialty departments and assist in budget planning and financial analysis.
  • Submit expenses to Oracle for processing.
  • Stay current with all features of EzVet & Smartflow (hospital operating systems).
  • Maintain relationships with vendors for hospital Specialty department inventory.
  • Notify Specialty staff of system updates, shutdowns, or equipment upgrades.
  • Ensure technical staff receives adequate training on hospital operating systems.
  • Support the Hospital Director with recruiting, interviewing, and pre-hire processes.
  • Assist team leaders in addressing employee performance concerns and maintaining disciplinary documentation.
  • Maintain annual calendars of employee paid time off, CE funds, and uniform allowances while keeping employees informed of account balances.
