About The Position

The Specialty Team Leader is responsible for leading the Specialty team within the Beer, Wine, Cheese & Chocolate department at Whole Foods Market. This role encompasses overseeing daily operations, ensuring profitability, managing team performance, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations. The Team Leader is also tasked with developing team members and fostering a positive work environment while delivering exceptional customer service.

Requirements

  • 24+ months of retail experience including 12+ months of team leadership experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management.
  • Food safety certification or commitment to complete certification within 6 months.
  • Excellent interpersonal, motivational, and team building skills.
  • Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance and managing inventory.
  • Demonstrated decision-making ability and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with email, Microsoft Office, and operations-related applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provides overall leadership to the Specialty team.
  • Responsible for daily operations including profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, and labor management.
  • Leads and develops Associate Team Leaders and Team Members.
  • Accountable for hiring, development, corrective actions, and separations of Team Members.
  • Ensures adherence to health and safety regulations and food safety standards.
  • Monitors and achieves sales, margin, expense, and labor targets.
  • Maintains proper product assortment, merchandising, and inventory control.
  • Establishes collaborative relationships with departmental and store leadership.
  • Fosters a positive environment of teamwork and morale.
  • Communicates and models Whole Foods Market vision and goals.
