About The Position

Major Responsibilities: Identifies future capital equipment needs or replacement when needed. Identifies cost savings initiatives for specific specialties. Identifies instrument needs and monitors repairs. Implements process changes to decrease cost of repairs and to educate the staff on proper handling of instrumentation. Collaborates with RN Specialty Services Coordinator, Director, AVP and staff to identify the budget needs of specialty services required to support clinical demands of specialty procedures. Assists Desk Manager in adjusting staffing levels in response to case mix/volume and degree of difficulty. Ensures routine inventories are conducted and prescribed levels of sterile and non-sterile specialty supplies and equipment are maintained. Assists in accounting for chargeable items/supplies and equipment through investigation of lost charges. Implements at least one unit program/project or changes annually which promotes productivity, enhances services and/or increases staff awareness of need to control patient care costs. Accountable for monitoring and approval of specialty expenditures against budget/reports for efficient and effective operation of assigned unit. Responsible for assessment of new products/equipment to promote and ensure quality patient care and to meet established goals of cost effectiveness. Ensures the assigned physicians’ needs are fulfilled to facilitate satisfaction. Creates, evaluates, and updates physicians’ preference cards to ensure patient/surgeon satisfaction. Assures visibility and availability to staff members to assist with complex problem solving. Assures compliance with established policies, procedures and standards. Performs routine rounds to assess needs of patients, surgeons, and staff. Effectively assists with the assignment by appropriately staffing according to staff competencies. Participates in implementation projects and process changes and in community health related programs. Complies with unit-specific articulated job expectations. Facilitates staff attendance at appropriate in-services. Actively seeks out ways to mentor staff and help improve their skills. Serves as liaison between physicians, vendors, and staff. Assists Department Based Educator with ongoing training for employees including orientation and in-services. Interacts with Supply Chain Management and Instrument Processing to ensure new instrumentation and specialty items are ordered. Encourages staff to pursue appropriate certifications, educational degrees and continued educational opportunities, such as participation in the nursing clinical ladder. Engages in self-performance appraisal on a regular basis, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional/practice development. Seeks additional knowledge and skills appropriate to the practice setting by developing and/or participating in educational programs and activities, conferences, workshops, interdisciplinary professional meetings, and self-directed learning. Networks with peers at the local, state and national levels. Functions as coach and mentor. Demonstrates commitment and loyalty to the organization and department and encourages that behavior in employees. Values diversity of opinions, perspectives and approaches and encourages others to do the same. Assists with the creation and revisions of specialty-specific policies and procedures. Maintains compliance with established departmental standards, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Ensures quality of nursing care through observation and record audits as demonstrated by corrective action being taken on all identified problems. Demonstrates knowledge of the operations of the assigned specialties and the organization to enhance service delivery and monitor outcomes of same. Ensures that all unit equipment is in safe operating order and the environment meets standards. Identifies and utilizes necessary technology, resources, and skills. Demonstrates knowledge of relevant clinical and technical changes and improvements. Ensures employees are competent to utilize available technology, helping them develop and improve technical skills. Assures the environment is clean and presentable and supplies/equipment are available and in good, safe working condition. Act as a professional and clinical resource. Promotes a positive, progressive, professional role model for staff by contributing to the effective management and operation of the Surgery Center. Actively participates on hospital committees, task forces, and community committees. Assists in the provision of clinical experience for nursing and technical students of affiliating schools and/or orienting staff. Participates and assist with quality assurance and improvement processes. Demonstrates effective time management by completing commitment within the negotiated timeframe. Facilitates periodic conferences with staff, physicians, and support departments to assess performance improvement opportunities. Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of leadership role.

Requirements

  • Require current ARRT, RCIS , RN (current GA license). If registered nurse, Certification in Operating Room nursing (CNOR) must be obtained within 2 years of being placed in position.
  • Graduate of an accredited radiology program or graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • 2 years’ experience in invasive procedures required, or 3 years’ experience of professional nursing experience required
  • Must possess good verbal and written communications skills, demonstrate discretion in handling confidential information, and demonstrate flexibility in meeting needs of staffing and census fluctuations in terms of schedule.
  • Must be able to utilize initiative and independent action when required within the general framework of professional assignment.
  • Must be able to coach and precept effectively.
  • Must have the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with physicians and staff.
  • Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.
  • Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.
  • Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to forward reach, overhead reach, bend, squat, kneel and change from one position to the other rapidly.
  • Must be able to lift 25-60 lbs. and carry 25-50 pounds specific to job class evaluation.
  • Must be able to tolerate high noise, busy atmospheres and noxious odors.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments and be self-directed to complete jobs as ordered.
  • Must be able to remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Must be able to assess and respond to multiple situations simultaneously.
  • Must be able to assist co-workers in multiple overlapping tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to prioritize job tasks and organize work space to be efficient and conducive to completing work tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
  • If job class is identified as falling under POPE C, the individual must pass the cardiac recovery test.
