About The Position

The Oncology RN is responsible for coordinating patient care. Assesses information that is given to them from the patient via phone or in person, communicating information to providers and obtains orders if needed. Provides triaging to patients with symptom management and provides recommendations from the provider. Administration of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy treatments to patients. Oncology assessment and lab assessment to determine if meets criteria for treatment. Close collaboration with provider for best patient care. Delivers professional nursing care guided by Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring illustrated by creating caring relationships, taking time to have uninterrupted moments with patients and displaying unconditional acceptance and respect. Promotes a mutually respectful environment that encourages the exchange of ideas, supports the effectiveness of professional relationships, and integrates ethics in all aspects of practice. Demonstrates advocacy in all roles and settings. Practices Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles in their daily work by respecting others’ uniqueness, perspectives, backgrounds or beliefs. Communicates effectively in all areas of professional practice. Mentors nurses new to their role for the purpose of ensuring successful enculturation, orientation, competence, and emotional support. Requirements

Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient/significant other, as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)

Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills. (Required proficiency)
Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods. (Required proficiency)
Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication administration and equipment calibration. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)
Registered Nurse - KSBN Required
Basic Life Support - BLS RQI or other certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department. Must have within 90 days of hire.
Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate - ONS Must obtain within 90 days or hire and prior to administering chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
1 year Experience in acute care. Preferred
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)- Magnet - ONCC-Magnet Preferred

Responsibilities

Promote infection prevention through use of standard precautions, proper procedure in dressing changes, wound care, hand hygiene and cleanliness of the patient rooms/department
