The Specialty Physician Assistant Neonatology Per Diem will: The Physician Assistant (PA) will be an integral part of the health care team, working with physicians, nurses and nursing or medical assistants to provide comprehensive high-quality ambulatory care, as appropriate to the ages of the patient's growth and development through the life cycle factors (Neonates). Clinical Care: Provide direct patient care under physician supervision for common medical conditions including evaluation, diagnosis, and management of routine acute and chronic illnesses. Document all patient encounters within 24 hours per practice guidelines, maintain continuity care panel and manage patient flow including urgent care as needed. Perform procedures, venipuncture, vaccinations, and nursing tasks as requested while demonstrating competency in age-appropriate care across all patient populations. Patient Management: Review lab results and notify clinicians of abnormalities, coordinate follow-up care and contact families for further evaluation or treatment as needed. Manage chronic disease patients, process routine medication refills in consultation with physician, and complete medical documentation including work/school notes and care coordination with other providers. Develop and implement patient education for common diagnoses, evaluate caregiver understanding, and explain illness, tests, procedures, and home care including medication administration using both oral and printed materials. Practice Development: Review current policies and recommend revisions to improve efficiency and patient experience. Identify needs for new policies in discussion with Practice Administrator and Chair, assist with policy development, and contribute to PA role development within the department. Provide in-service education for nurses and medical assistants.
