About The Position

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensures patients receive the correct medication and packages and labels prescriptions. He/She complies with the standards, ethics, laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, including the MS Board of Pharmacy and the Joint Commission standards. Critical to this position is a person who is able to establish strong and credible relationships with patients, clinicians and internal Shields staff. Applicants should be results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high patient quality and service. A natural forward-planner who critically assesses own performance. Mature, well-presented, professional and comfortable in dealing with others both in-person and on the phone. Applicant must be reliable, tolerant, and determined; an empathic communicator, able to see things from the other person's point of view. Most importantly, person must be able to work as a member of a close-knit team. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy required.
• Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
• Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
• Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, and understand and set goals.
• Must possess highly developed organizational, planning and management writing skills.
• Must understand the fundamentals of automated data processing, and be able to gain a detailed understanding of complex computerized and non-computerized information within allotted timeframe.
• Must demonstrate an understanding of workflows in order to design and execute software solutions that solve business problems.
• Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio).
• Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area - with the employee providing his/her own transportation.
• Must have a valid driver license.

Nice To Haves

• Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
• Certification as a Pharmacy Technician by the Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National Healthcare Association (NHA) preferred; must maintain certification as specified or required by the examining authority.
• Retail pharmacy technician, claims, and/or Insurance coordination experience preferred.
