About The Position

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensures patients receive the correct medication and packages and labels prescriptions. He/She complies with the standards, ethics, laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, including the MS Board of Pharmacy and the Joint Commission standards. Critical to this position is a person who is able to establish strong and credible relationships with patients, clinicians and internal Shields staff. Applicants should be results-oriented with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high patient quality and service. A natural forward-planner who critically assesses own performance. Mature, well-presented, professional and comfortable in dealing with others both in-person and on the phone. Applicant must be reliable, tolerant, and determined; an empathic communicator, able to see things from the other person's point of view. Most importantly, person must be able to work as a member of a close-knit team. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy required.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, and understand and set goals.
  • Must possess highly developed organizational, planning and management writing skills.
  • Must understand the fundamentals of automated data processing, and be able to gain a detailed understanding of complex computerized and non-computerized information within allotted timeframe.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of workflows in order to design and execute software solutions that solve business problems.
  • Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area - with the employee providing his/her own transportation.
  • Must have a valid driver license.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician by the Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National Healthcare Association (NHA) preferred; must maintain certification as specified or required by the examining authority.
  • Retail pharmacy technician, claims, and/or Insurance coordination experience preferred.
