About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Specialty Nurse (Registered Nurse) to join our dynamic surgery clinic team in Des Moines, IA. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in perioperative nursing, offering compassionate care throughout the surgical process-from preoperative assessments to postoperative recovery. This role is pivotal in ensuring optimal patient outcomes and maintaining a sterile, efficient surgical environment.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) acceptable.
  • Licensure: Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Iowa.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a surgical or perioperative nursing role; experience in an outpatient or ambulatory surgery center is advantageous.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required; certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) preferred.
  • Skills: Strong clinical assessment abilities, excellent communication skills, proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR), and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Preoperative Care: Conduct thorough patient assessments, review medical histories, and provide education on surgical procedures and recovery expectations.
  • Intraoperative Support: Assist the surgical team by maintaining sterile techniques, passing instruments, and monitoring patient vitals during procedures.
  • Postoperative Monitoring: Oversee patient recovery, manage pain, and monitor for complications, ensuring a safe transition from anesthesia.
  • Patient Education: Offer guidance to patients and families on postoperative care, including wound care, medication management, and activity restrictions.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including surgical notes and postoperative evaluations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and ensure seamless surgical operations.
  • Quality Assurance: Adhere to infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to uphold the clinic's high-quality care standards.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and manage surgical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and compliance with safety standards.
