Responsibilities Receives direction from the Operating Room Manager, Supervisor, Specialty Team Leader, and staff Registered Nurse. Works cooperatively with the surgeon, PAs/NPs, residents, fellows, and other allied health staff. Performs delegated activities to assist in the care of the patients in the operating room/procedure rooms. Under the supervision of a RN and in collaboration with the surgeon, the technologist functions primarily in the scrub role. Collaborates on developing best practice protocols and workflows for new procedures and transplants. Is responsible for selecting, preparing, and maintaining specific cardiac instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. Provides a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient. Applies and enforces principles of sterile technique implementing unique applications of solution prep and draping of the patient. Demonstrates the ability to be prepared to handle emergencies that may including quick thinking, adaptability, and solid skills to implement emergency protocols specific to cardiac procedures. Works flexible hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call expectations for cardiothoracic and transplant procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited or military surgical technology program.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within one year of hire date and maintained thereafter.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • One year of clinical experience required.

  • Cardiac experience preferred.
