About The Position

This position reports directly to the Manager of Youth Programming and serves as a lead mentor and instructional resource for Bridge and Mavericks coaches, as well as adaptive lesson instructors. While this role does not include formal supervisory duties such as hiring, scheduling, or timecard approval, the Specialized Swim Instructor and Head Youth Coach is responsible for supporting staff development, modeling best practices, and ensuring team members meet program standards and follow established policies and procedures. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who thrives in a collaborative environment while also demonstrating the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. This role involves teaching and coaching swimmers ages 5–17, as well as select adult participants, across a wide range of skill levels. Many participants may have neurodivergent differences or disabilities, so candidates must be comfortable working with individuals of all ages and abilities and be committed to inclusive, adaptive instruction. The successful candidate will foster a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment that promotes confidence, skill development, and a lifelong love of the water.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old
2+ years of experience coaching youth swim teams
This position has set hours: Monday–Thursday 10:00 am–2:00 pm (Teaching/Office hours) and 3:30–6:15 pm (Coaching)
Fridays 10:00 am–2 pm (Teaching/Office hours)
Office hours 1 day per week in the off-season, and at least 2 days per week during the summer (can be scheduled within the 10 am–2 pm timeframe)
WBSL Championships – one Saturday per year, end of July
Reliable transportation + ability to travel to away meets
USA Swimming Coaching Membership (including completion of SafeSport Training) (within 60 days of hire)
Safety Training for Swim Coaches (within 60 days of hire)

Nice To Haves

Swim Whisperers Adaptive Aquatics Training via Swim Angelfish preferred (or within 60 days of hire)
Adaptive Aquatics experience preferred

Responsibilities

Teach Private, Adult, and Adaptive swim lessons following the Swim School curriculum.
Adjust teaching methods to meet each swimmer’s skill level, goals, and learning style.
Ensure lessons maintain a high standard of safety, engagement, and technical accuracy.
Maintain clear communication with students (and parents, when applicable) regarding progress and skill goals.
Document student progress as required by Swim School standards
Collaborate with the Manager of Youth Programming to support the growth and structure of the Adaptive Swim Program.
Train current adaptive instructors in effective strategies for neurodivergent needs.
Provide hands-on coaching, modeling, and feedback for instructors working with adaptive students.
Assist in planning and leading in-services focused on adaptive swim techniques, safety considerations, and skill adaptations.
Support curriculum improvements and provide input on adaptive lesson structure, tools, and best practices.
Maintain professionalism, offering expertise without acting as a manager or supervisor.
Serve as Head Coach for Bridge Swim Program during the school year (September–May)
Serve as Head Coach for Mavericks during the summer season (May–August)
Plan and lead daily youth swim practices that align with program goals and developmental stages.
Provide individualized stroke feedback, skill development, and conditioning progressions to participants.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating team environment.
Communicate effectively with parents on the pool deck regarding swimmer progress and expectations.
Initiate practice set-up and review sets with the other coaches.
Write swim sets ahead of the season. Have a packet for each coach so that they know what to expect each day.
Runs tryouts.
Confirms dates and social events with the Manager of Youth Programming.
Creating meet sheets using Team Manager and Meet Manager computer programs.
Communicating with parents and coordinating volunteers.
Communicating logistics with opposing teams.
Ensuring swimmers understand meet procedures and expectations.
Help plan and attend social events.
Organize and take inventory for equipment, ribbons, and awards, requesting new items when needed.
