About The Position

The Specialized Instructional Aide will assist teachers by providing instructional assistance to individuals and small groups in reviewing and reinforcing previously introduced skills. Responsibilities include reading to students, explaining work assignments, coordinating and assisting students in learning groups and centers, and helping students select books and resource materials. The aide may follow the teacher's lesson plans and assist in the preparation of plans or develop their own plans based on the teacher's direction and the students' academic needs. Additional duties include evaluating instruction and student progress, organizing resource materials, preparing learning materials, maintaining bulletin boards, and operating audio-visual equipment. The aide will also perform clerical tasks such as taking roll, collecting money, filling out forms, correcting papers, and maintaining student records. They may assist in administering tests, check out and maintain library materials, prepare materials for parent meetings, and help maintain discipline in the classroom. The aide may also accompany students on field trips and attend school activities, while respecting the confidentiality of pupil records.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the District instructional aide examination.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Two recent letters of recommendation.
  • Proof of high school graduation (diploma, GED, or transcripts).
